Marketing management is a business discipline that focuses on the practical application of marketing techniques as well as the proper management of a firm’s marketing resources and pursuits. Marketing managers are primarily responsible for ensuring that the firm observes and implements sound marketing management concepts, methods and strategies. Depending on the firm’s size, culture and industry, the role of a marketing manager varies significantly from handling a specific product or brand to the administration of the entire marketing department.

Traditionally, marketing activities include those performed by other department such as production, sales, finance and operations. But the complexity of these individual tasks calls for the creation of a marketing department concentrating efforts on planning strategies for acquiring customers, building image and increasing sales mostly through advertising.
