Public Service Advertising
Public service advertising plays an important role in many countries, companies and organisations today. Governments and non-profit organisations are making significant investment in public service ads to convince people to give up dangerous or unhealthy behaviours, take up new habits, to obey the law, or think differently about issues. A public service announcement (PSA) or community service announcement is a non-commercial advertisement broadcast on radio or television, principally for the public interest, information and education.

Often public service ads enlist the support of famous personalities as in the case of Pamela Anderson calling to end animal abuse, Michael J. Fox supporting research of Parkinson’s Disease, and Crips street gangster, Stanley “Tookie” Williams, urging the youth to stay away from gangs. Religious groups also produce PSAs using non-religious themes like family values. For-profit entities build up goodwill and public image by publishing PSAs about their social and community work involvements that include tree planting, clean-up drives, feeding and clothing programs, etc.
